Gong Xi Fa Cai!!

So here's the short NYE story:

We rented a house up at the Russian River, with Ken and Sari. We got up there in the pouring rain Friday night. It took about 3 hours to get there with a few stops. Not too bad considering. It rained all night Friday night, and came down in sheets!

The house was fantastic: internet, TV with DVD player, TONS of DVD's, board games, hot tub, etc.

We woke up the next morning to multiple phone calls, including the owner, and the neighbor, telling us we were the focus of national news. We were told that if we didn't evacuate we would be stuck there until possibly Wednesday. With most of us having to be back at work on Tuesday, we weren't going to chance it. It was a tough decision considering how close to civilization we were, and that we weren't in any physical danger. The power had gone out so we talked about it over a candle lit breakfast. I imagine that if the power were on we would have stayed.

We drove back through a dozen detours, and basically drove to Bodega Bay only to come back inland. The drive back took about 7 hours. We made it back in enough time, and with enough booze to salvage NYE.

Here are a couple pictures:

This was the way out of town (that truck going through the water had tires almost as tall as me)
